Our whips are Australian made. The red hide whips are made from Australian cowhide especially tanned for whips. They are hard work ready and stock camp tough. 

The Kangaroo hide whips are more expensive. A lot of people ask, why? Kangaroo leather is soft, strong and very resilient. It is however much thinner than cowhide, therefore many more strands are required to get the same thickness of a standard 4 plait cowhide whip. The Kangaroo whips can be made up of 20 plaited strands, but the most popular is 12 plait. The effect is the same as holding four match sticks. You can break them fairly easily, but try breaking 12 held tightly together. It is impossible. The kangaroo whips are the strongest available, are balanced and lead shot loaded. These whips just about crack by themselves. They just need one thing, that's somewhere to call home. 

	5 foot x 4 plait Kangaroo Hide Yard Whip This whip in 4 plait kangaroo hide is considered to be for yard work. This is indeed a great whip for close work in cattle yards and the like also a very good length for working from motor bike or trikes which stockmen today often do. The whip length in kangaroo hide is also a good selection for kids wanting to start out or women wanting a light whip to use in the home paddocks to move the dogs or the cow from the vegie patch. 	5 foot x 8 plait Kangaroo Hide Stockwhips This is my preference in whip length for most routines. Get a pair of these whips and you will amaze your self with what you can do!.	$300.00
	6 foot x 8 plait Kangaroo Hide Stockwhips Great whips for a more flowing style. These are popular whips for stockmen who want a nice whip to work with. A great whip for flowing routines. For Australian Whip Cracking Competitions, run by the Australian Whip Crackers and Plaiters Association, this is the minimum length required for the accuracy component.	$321.00
	7 foot x 8 plait Kangaroo Hide Stockwhips These whips are preferred by stockmen who need a longer whip for greater reach off a horseback.	$343.00
	8 foot x 8 plait Kangaroo Hide Stockwhips The longer the whip, the more strength that is required to crack it. I find that it is too tiring cracking a pair of these longer whips for any length of time.	$363.00
These 12 plait whips are the top of the line whips in terms of the number of strands. Any more strands than this and you really have to look after the whip so that the strands don't break. They come with a full plait 12 plait handle.

           Red Hide Stockwhips Selection  

The length of the handle is also matched according to the length of the whip.

Red Hide is the name given to a type of cowhide that has gone through a specific tanning process. As the name suggests the final product is a deep red colored leather. The quality of any cowhide depends on the original hide. Scars can create weaknesses in the leather. Young cattle have more stretch in the hide, which is not desirable for whips. All leather will stretch but if the strands at the end of a whip stretch too much then they are more susceptible to break.

Red Hide loaded and balanced stockwhips These whips are leather loaded, which means that more weight is put into the belly of the whip. The belly of any whip is the most important component. If a whip has no belly it will not crack effectively. All these whips have the appropriate amount of weight in the belly. A loaded and balanced whip refers to a whip that has the right amount weight in the belly in the right spot throughout the whip.

	3 foot x 4 plait Red Hide Kids Whip 3 foot long is the shortest length of whip that will make an effective crack. These whips are ideal for any kid up to about the age of 6 or 7.	$77.00
	4 foot x 4 plait Red Hide Yard Whip Traditionally used by stockmen in cattle yards, where they want a short whip for close range and quick action. They are also a great length for slighter older and stronger kids 7 to 10 year olds. They are nicely finished with a half plait red hide handle.	$100.00
	5 foot x 4 plait Red Hide Stock Whip This whip comes with a 4 plait red hide handle. The Red Hide gives the handle greater grip, which is needed on work whips. A great whip for anyone starting off in whip cracking and wanting a whip that will take a lot of wear and tear. Great for any kid around the age of 10 and up. 	6 foot x 4 plait Red Hide Stock Whip This whip comes with a 4 plait red hide handle. The 6 footer is the Australian standard. You will find this whip on all working cattle stations.	$139.00
	7 foot x 4 plait Red Hide Stock Whip This whip comes with a 4 plait red hide handle. This is the most common whip used off horseback. If a short whip is used off a horse then it has a greater chance of cracking in the horse's ear or over the rump. You need a longer whip that will crack further away from the horse.	$142.00
The following whips are recommended for people who prefer a heavier whip. They are a 6 plait, which gives greater weight to the whip. These 6 and 7 foot whips come with an 8 plait red hide handle that is popular for greater grip.
